We must be honest with ourselves and admit that we have all done wrong, that we are sinners, and that there is a consequence for our transgressions...
We all know that one day we will die; that's for sure. In Revelation 20:14-15 it describes the ultimate punishment for sin saying: "And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. (15) And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire." Because of our sin not only do we die, but the ultimate punishment is the second death which is being cast into the lake of fire.
Now who is not included in the Book of Life?
Further in the next chapter, Revelation 21:8, it describes the people who are not present in the book of life and will experience the second death saying: "But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death."
To put it simply, we have all lied once, and it only takes one lie to make someone a liar, so according to the Bible we all deserve Hell.
But, there is good news...
John 3:16 puts it beautifully. It says "whosoever believeth in him", not whosoever is a good person, repents of their sins, goes to church, or changes their lifestyle... it says whoseover BELIEVETH. Throughout the Bible, salvation is described as a gift - the gift of everlasting life through Jesus. It makes sense that once you accept a gift, there shouldn't be any conditions to keep that gift. If God were to take back your salvation, then it was not a gift or everlasting to begin with. God does not lie and His word consistently affirms what can be simply described as "ONCE SAVED, ALWAYS SAVED!"
" But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us "
ROMANS 5:8
" ...but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. "
ROMANS 6:23 (b)
" For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. "
2 CORINTHIANS 5:21
" But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness. "
ROMANS 4:5
" For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: (9) Not of works, lest any man should boast. "
EHPHESIANS 2:8-9
" And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. "
1 JOHN 5:11
Now let me ask you:
Do you believe that you are a sinner and deserve Hell?
Do you believe that Jesus died, was buried, and rose again for you?
If you answered yes to all of these questions from the bottom of your heart, then you ARE SAVED and can pray this prayer:
"Dear Lord, I am a sinner and I deserve Hell. I believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross and rose again for me. Jesus, my full trust is in you. Save me! In the name of Jesus. Amen!"
